IMMIGRATION & VISAS

Immigrating to Canada involves applying  for a visa, either long-term or  short-term.  At the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre, we can give you information on what types of Canadian visas there are, and which may be most suitable for the situation.  We are proud to be able to offer our clients the following services:

  • Access to visa application forms and guides
  • Access to computers to complete online applications
  • Referrals to government resources and representatives who can answer questions.

WORK PERMITS

Work permits allow a person that is not a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident to work for a specific period of time.  These may be Closed Work Permits (can only work for one employer) or Open Work permits (can work for any employer).

We can help you find information on how to  apply for a work permit, change the work permit you currently have, or apply to extend your work permit.

LIVE-IN CAREGIVER PROGRAM

A live-in Caregiver is someone who lives in the home of the person that they provide care to and have a work permit issued under Live-in Caregiver Program.  This includes people who care for  the elderly, people with long-term illnesses as well as those that provide childcare.  We can give you information on:

  • How to change your employer when you work as a Live-In Caregiver
  • Extending  your Live-In Caregiver work permit
  • Becoming a Permanent Resident

PERMANENT RESIDENCE

A Permanent Resident of Canada, is able to apply to work or study where they choose, and they do not require a work or study permit.  There are several ways to apply for permanent residence.  Staff at the Centre can assist in finding information on:

  • How to apply for Permanent Residence
  • What the eligibility requirement are
  • How to access application forms

CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP

Many newcomers to Canada welcome the opportunity to apply for Canadian citizenship.  The Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre can help newcomers:

  • Understand what the eligibility requirements are
  • Access the study guide and provide information on Citizenship exams.
